Helping Entrepreneurs Find Their Ideal Businesses

1. What Activities Do You Like to Do?
Hands-On or Craft-Type Work
Do you enjoy building or repairing items? Are you handy or artistic? Are you curious about how things work?

Creative Jobs
Are you creative or enjoy solving puzzles? Do you find it easy to think outside the box and find interest in new and different ideas?

Customer Service
Are you a social person who enjoys being around and meeting new people? Do you like helping others - even people you don't know? Would you rather work in a group or around others than independently?

Teaching
Do you find it rewarding to teach others? A teaching career could include a daycare business, tutoring or seminar programs

Detail-Oriented Work
Businesses like medical claims, bookkeeping or accounting fall into this category.

2. Where Do You Prefer to Work?
At Home
Do you prefer working independently, and can you stay self-motivated in your home without getting distracted by other activities? Will you not go stir crazy working from home a majority of the time?

Out of the Home
Are you happier working with others or in a more professional environment, for instance, an office, retail shop or other business center where clients come to meet you?

Mobile/On-Site
Do you like to work outside the home, but in a less-structured environment where you get a change of scenery and you meet clients at their homes or place of business? Your business may be based at home, but much of your work will be "on-location" with clients, vendors, etc..

Outdoors
Do you prefer the open air to an office? Do you enjoy being out-of-doors or in nature even if the elements are not ideal?

Traveling
Do you want to see the world? Are you interested in traveling to different countries or destinations on a regular basis? Are you OK with not having a daily regular routine in a single location?

3. With Whom Do You Want to Work?
General Consumers
If you don't have a specific type of individuals that you'd like to work with, general consumers includes pretty much everyone. You can also narrow the focus of your business to men or women, a certain age bracket, interest or geographic location.

Businesses
Do you prefer working in the business-to-business environment rather than business-to-consumer? Do you enjoy communicating with entrepreneurs, other small business owners or people purchasing in order to turn a profit?

Kids
Do you like interacting with young people? Do you have the skills typically needed to work well with this age group, including patience, communication and leadership?

Seniors
Doing business with mature individuals can sometimes mean working in a slower-paced environment. This requires patience, but can also be relaxing and rewarding for the right person.

Animals
Do you like being around animals and caring for them hands-on. Do you make animals and pets feel comfortable in your presence?

4. How Often Do You Want to Work?
Part-Time
Are you looking start a business that can earn you extra money on weekends or evenings? Do you only have a few hours a week to spare or do you need a very flexible schedule? Keep in mind that many part-time ventures can eventually grow into full-time businesses if that's what you want.

Full-Time
Will your business be your main source of income? Do you have approximately 40 hours a week to invest in your business? Some business owners work more than 40 hours per week, especially during the start-up phase when more time is needed to grow the business. Some full-time business owners work less than 40 hours a week, like if they hire staff to share the workload. You are the boss, so the decision is yours.
